Square's entry in SW037 made me think it would be nice to do a Dub reggae competition. There are some interesting modern takes on the genre.

I'd like to try a musical, lol. Like Mary Poppins or something. It'd be challenging.

Time travel challenges
Make a music from the 40s (or 50s, 60s)...
making a song typical of the given era.
no genre is defined (can be a musical also ), but authentic sound could also be important
or 'make a song as if it was on the billboard 100 list of the decade'
similar challenges of this kind so far have been more recent "trips" and more genre-specific.
Now, rather, the era would be relevant along with its 'sound world'.

I agree, the era idea sounds interesting. I like My musical idea too because it seems entertaining, but so does a timed piece.

Singer/Songwriter. Something that really puts people in a place of using their own personal experience to tell a story, with melody and chords. Sooo many genres cross into this genre. Why not make us say something with words and see how that goes?

I'd like to see composing for a video. Maybe a given scene from a movie or short film, maybe a youtubevideo or commercial.
And make the competition as if you are a client that wants a song composed for the image and perfectly sync with the video given.

Interesting request. This could work on similar lines like SWC047 / July 2021.
However, not only do we need suitable source material, but also the necessary interaction. So this definitely needs some preparation work. I'll try to reach out to befriended video editors, see what I can do. This would make for a great challenge, but I'll make no promises.

something slow and classic.

Not that I'm any good at it, but how about abnormal time signatures? Really anything outside of 4/4 I know I have a hard time.

Like... another Waltz (3/4) or more "Progressive Rock" (6/8, among others)?
