Re: MIX CHALLENGE - MC42 April 2018 - Mix Round 1 in evaluation

I've been experimenting with compressing stereo signals with multi-mono compression. I wonder if any of you do the same. They work really well for me. They help clean out a lot of mud from the mix, especially from those with a lot of low frequencies so that they don't compete with the kick+bass. Wh...

Hi, I'm happy to join this contest! Long to explain what I used, but basically it was parallel compressors, different sizes of reverberations. Nothing on the master bus. Right, here we are then. Some slightly weirdy indie/folky (3/4, 6/8?) ditty about how spring isn't all it's cracked up to be (inspired it must be said, by the rather unseasonal shite weather we had in the UK). Perhaps a few nods to to The Smiths.. :hihi: I bought a new 12 string acoustic - you can ...

Thanks to David first and foremost for making his track available for the challenge, such a beautiful song and a real pleasure to mix. I tried to keep as close to the brief as possible, with a clean, spacious, but still punchy mix. To echo the vibe of the song I thought this mix needed to be felt as...

Congrats winners and thanks Mister Fox for organizing.
After taking on board everyone's feedback I decided to do a few revisions.
Thanks for the comments and suggestions, it's really appreciated.

Re: SONGWRITING COMPETITION - SWC07 March 2018 - Voting until 01-04-2018 11:59pm GMT+2/CEST

This one has a nice sort of simple structure, but with good "riffy" guitars very upfront and agresive (maybe a little too much in some moments). Those guitars sound really good! I like the "blend" I hear between old and new "Alices", as in your singing and the chorus r...

Cheers, some good ideas to look at there. I'm thinking about that last section..the vocal is right at the top of my range (30 odd years of smoking tends to do that.. :hihi: ) so maybe something going lower I think. Hmm...I shall ponder. And I'll always take Blur as any kind of comparison. Ne...

These are my scores and a few words on each, cheers. kc23 - Coffee.Nothing I love the overall tone and feel of this track throughout, it's got a real post-punk, 'The Cure', vibe about it, and I think the vocals in particular really lend themselves to this style. I noticed an abrupt cut off at 0:57 w...
