Crap - forgot to do that. Thanks. @Mister Fox - is it ok to rename?

EDIT: I didn't hear back form Mister Fox, but I will be out of pocket for most of the rest of the day, so I renamed the track. It's the exact same file. Hope that's ok.

https://soundcloud.com/gruskada/canary-release I chose to do a rap-rock funk / avant garde song about the current environment in the US. It''s a song about personal and political breakdowns. There are quotes from our president (all US government federal employee speeches are public domain, accordin...

You have also some phase issues. It looks like it was cause by that kind of doubletracking effect used on synth but also because of ping pong like delay on bass. It looks most phasing issues are in low spectrum up to 800Hz. Even 100Hz and below is too wide. I basically took a synth bass preset and ...

Or trick what I use quite often: I sing the melody ("de-dee-dee"), convert it to midi, and then I use the timing and velocity from that (but I always have to make lots of pitch correction moves). Interesting. I'll have to try that out. Sometimes I'll write something on guitar, then figure...

Re: SONGWRITING COMPETITION - SWC032 April 2020 - Voting until 01-MAY-2020 23:59 UTC+2/CEST

This was a really tough one to judge, especially across genres, and just the criteria of using (but not necessarily featuring) two synths. The most interesting thing to me, based on the criteria, was how much the artist challenged themself. But this is impossible to really know without really knowin...

Re: SONGWRITING COMPETITION - SWC032 April 2020 - Submissions until 24-04-2020 23:59 UTC+2/CEST

I always wanted to write an 80's-style song, but was quite intimidated by the thought of it, since it's not anything like my personal style (though I really love 80's music). I wanted to make it sound like it could be on the soundtrack to an 80's film (which to me is having a strong bold melody, lot...

I think bass is too dominant and it take all the attention. It almost feels it lead the track. That's actually what I was going for. I realize it's non-traditional, but I was thinking about one of Brian Eno's "Oblique Strategies" cards, where it states something like "Switch the lead...

I really enjoyed listening to the submissions this month. There were some really great ones, and the theme was perfect. ollyaudio - really like the vibe and the sounds - mix is good - beat is a little disjointed, which messes with the flow. Maybe having the chords sustain right until the next one wo...

Here's my entry: https://soundcloud.com/gruskada/relaxed-problem I was having a lot of crushing migraines back in January, and started to write this song for something relaxing to do. I gave up working on it when I figured out what was causing the headaches (too much coffee :hyper: ), and forgot abo...

Re: SONGWRITING COMPETITION - SWC027 November 2019 - Winners announced

Appreciate the feedback, SimaGT. Thanks. I'm in the process of re-mixing my song, in part based on everyone's comments. Thanks also to Mister Fox and Trojak for explaining true peak levels more clearly. The cool thing is, even if I "f+cked up" the genre I learned a lot while doing this. I ...
