Re: MIX CHALLENGE - MC075 April 2021 - Mix Round 1 in evaluation
@FrequencyPainter This mix is a journey through spaces; Small rooms big rooms and voices coming from a radio. A darker mix but that probably suits the vibe of it and allows for that big low end punch on the stomps, Although I think there could be a bit more of the mid low thwack around 200hz on tho...

Hi Endicott, everyone, This is my 'painting'. If understood it correctly, this song is a journey into sound, with little pockets of surprising contrasts. I did my best to add some ear candy to support the lyrics. I realise there is a fine line between making things more interesting and overkill. It ...

@Frequency Painter, EXPOSE tool (by Mastering The Mix) says you have -0.6dB Peak! Good old Cool Edit says -0.64dB. I always check with both. Not sure which tool gave you a wrong reading? DAW meters normally can be switched between Peak and VU. Are you sure about the gain staging? Seems a lot of red...

Re: MIX CHALLENGE - MC062 February 2020 - Feedback on Mix Round 1
[*]19 entries that either clipped (maximum signal strength / dB True Peak) I'm scratching my head here, my metering indicates a level of -1.1 dBTP. What could be the cause? I can read that the EBU calibration standard allows for a 0.6 dB (+0.2/-0.4) tolerance. This is just very strange. Any idea wh...

Hi Gary, everyone, Here's my contribution to this contest. First of, thank you Gary for doing this, it was a pleasure to work with your music. The emotions of the main melodies (and their sound design) perfectly capture your vision of this dystopian disaster setting. I expanded a bit on it and made ...

Re: MIX CHALLENGE - MC057 August 2019 - Mix Round 1 in evaluation
Before I kick off Mix Round 2: I've been PM'd with some criticism and concerns. I'll get this sorted out with the Song Provider first, then I'll start off Round 2. Apologies for the waiting time, but please do not start your edit yet. Hi Mister Fox, The bickering about technicalities instead of goo...

5.) well balanced mix. vocals: a bit less >10k, instead more warmth would be good. also the organ seems to be very dominant to my ears. NOTE: you will have to provide 48/24 to be able to win. Hi Dirk, I'm pleased you like what I did. I'll gladly address your remarks. This is my second time I enter ...

Hi all, So, I was a bit confused by the briefing. I started out mixing this like the band was playing in a club, but soon I hit a wall. First, the programmed drums wouldn't fit like it wanted. Secondly, without a visual cue (watching the video/film while listening to the mix), it all sounded a bit w...

Thank you James! Always doubting myself and wanting to learn. :-) So a question: what would you change, what could be "better"?
Cheers,
