hello everyone

Fese, thanks for the feedback  Most of the things you pointed out were very correct. I hope this mix ticks all the boxes.

On the lead vocal this was my channel strip before FX sends.
1. Fabfilter pro Q 2 - I did a HP to get rid of some rumble and also did a cut @300Hz
2. Waves NS1 - to tame background noise
3. Waves PuigTec EQP1A - to shape vocal tone
4. Waves Vocal Rider - to keep a steady level of the vocal

I hope this helps.

Thanks :tu:

Hi,
I think I managed to make all the changes that were asked. I made small eq and pan changes to many tracks, but the basic sound is very similar to the first version.

I try to gather the asked info about vocal chain tomorrow, when I’m back to my computer.

Thanks so much for choosing my mix to move on! The biggest changes I made for round 2 were EQ related, mostly the things you mentioned in your feedback. I also added a bit of automation to Susan's main vocal to make it not pop out so much in the verses. I struggled a bit with the music box, but added a bit of soft clipping and compression to lose some of the clicky-ness. I made a couple other small changes that popped out at me after coming back to it. Overall I'm really happy with the end result. Thanks for providing a great song fese!

Very excited to be selected for round 2! Thank you! I've tried to fix everything on your checklist, so I hope I've succeeded in doing so. Added a little bit of distortion to add some edge to the bass. Also, I tried to even out the male vocal throughout the song and remove some of the boxiness. I made the volume more consistent throughout the song, while still trying to maintain the impact. Thanks again for a great track, it was very fun!

Hello,
Here is my proposal based on your judicious comments, I worked the stereo image and make a mix more analog and natural (in the box) without pre-mastering.

Good listening to all,

Pheeeeeeew, I made it!

FLAC: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1fgmMn ... YAn_bwlXqf

Edit: Okay, just wanted to make sure that I am safe.
Due to super heavy workload throughout last week (including the weekend) I wasn't able to touch up my mix. I had to leave town yesterday (again, work) but I really wanted to participate because of the nice discussions we had. Yesterday I tried to work on the mix but my Macbook couldn't handle the session (which I mixed on my Desktop PC) and just was going nuts. It seems like the Fabfilter GUIs are causing some trouble... Anyways, today I was like "forget it" but I couldn't let go! :uhuhuh:
So, although I am pretty exhausted I cooked up a completely new mix in Reaper (which is a bit more efficient) based on the feedback. I carried a few things over but also did other things completely different. I tried to place the drums a little more in the background, let the bass carry the weight and have an overall "acoustic" vibe. I tried to have less "esses" and overall clutter on top. And I tried to have a grande finale ;)
I had to mix this completely in 4 hours on my headphones and a mono Bluetooth speaker (thank god I took my little Faderport with me), so I hope there is something to like about it . After I was stoked that I really rendered the file in time I opened Google Drive... which wanted me to authenticate that I am really me :bang: After I could convince Google that this is really, REALLY my computer, I discovered that the hotel Wifi upload is practically non existing, so in the end I had to upload the file via phone hotspot. Now that's a fun evening :hihi:
That is also the reason why I just uploaded a Flac file. I hope that's fine, given my situation.
If the mix is a little hot it's because my Pro L2 meters where freakin out, but I tried to get as close as possible to the target level.

I guess that is the usual pace for a pro, but I am glad that I pulled it off

Cheers
Mork

It's the 1st November 2018, 12:45am - the 2nd Mix Round has officially ended.

Sadly not all participants were able to send in their edits. (if I'm not mistaken, davidbrkd's entry is missing)
We have no submissions after the deadline.
Please check your upload links again, and have an eye on this thread for the final results.

I'm now opening up the room (again) for Q&A's and giving each other feedback (which is highly encouraged)
Both the Mix Challenge 49 and Songwriting Competition 15 are in full swing.

See you on the flipside.

Hi everyone,
I am still in the aftermaths of a rather nasty cold, I'll try to listen to all the submissions on the weekend in the hope that my head feels a bit less brickwall limited by then :exhausted:

4. Waves Vocal Rider - to keep a steady level of the vocal
Could you tell me a bit more in detail how you used that? I have the hornet autogain which I think is a similar plugin, but I never really sure how and when to use it...
