@thiagoam88:
Minimal documentation should be possible. Do it with screenshots (like I usually do), or keep it short and simple with a couple of sentences. But at least provide some insight of why you did what you did, what your focus was, how you approached it, maybe even talk about your issues. Basically... let's start a conversation with this - which in turn is a learning factor for all others as well.

About the how and why:

I tried to sound like what i listen as fusion jazz recordings, such as Chad Wackerman albums in this case because of the vibraphones.

Compressions, eq and reverbs are what i used the most to make the natural sounds blend. A bit of automation too of course.

I really did not know what to do with the brass at the end, i chose eventually to treat it as a synth.

I hope i will not stay at round -5 this time, anyway i l enjoyed this natural instrumental challenge a lot!

Good luck everybody.

I referenced 70s stanley clarke and herbie hancock to try and get it in the ballpark. As such it's pretty mid-heavy, and I think the bass speaks loud and proud.

Used airwindows console4 and sonimus satson to attempt that thick but vintage mix sound.

Tried to put everything in a room, with a bit of plate on the piano solo.

I had a hard time getting the drum set to fit as a cohesive unit. I used a parallel track and made a room track as well.

Hey guys!

Still not connected to the net at my new place (Tethering to phone ain't really cutting it). Will be registering at the local library, this afternoon, and so I should be able to grab all the tracks when I am there.

Really excited to hear all the entries, and really appreciate the interest

Thanks,

Hey guys - I'm including a couple screenshots to show how I set up my DAW with grouping in Reaper. I run all my groups through Britson Buss. And all my individual tracks are going through HorNetVUMeterMK3 to set my gain staging (this is my 2nd mix doing it). It does the job automatically - which saves a butt load of trouble. One thing to note - If you do your gain staging this way, you'll need to place any plugin to drive distortion before the Hornet in order to have enough gain to get distortion.

I did some side-chaining compression on my reverb send channels (Drum FX & Inst FX) to clean up the verb so it wouldn't get washed out. I also set up a "Faux Room" for the drums and the instruments to give a more "live" feel to the mix.

I had fun experimenting with the Bass - I duplicated the Dry Version and ended up using Voxengo Tube Amp (pre-HorNetVU) to overdrive it then into the Drawmer set @ 100%, Air on and Vocal Enhance to get the clean slap bass sound mixed with the dry version. It came out pretty good without being "brittle".

And I used the MH Channel Strip I got from MC 31 on the Kick & Snare. I think I like it!

Hey guys,

Here is my entry. It was fun to mix this one, I like that this track is not your standard 4/4.

MP3:https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7JeW ... Fl5emJNWDg
WAV:https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7JeW ... 1FCMWhPTEk

Mixed in Cubase 9
44K 32 bits

I tried to keep it simple to give it more of live band feel. Basic EQ on all instruments, remove some mud, compression when needed and spaced the parts to give a tight room feel.

All parts go to the same room reverb. Added some analogue summing on the master, a touch of compression to glue as well.
Used both bass parts, and tamed it a bit on the higher mids.
A bit more compression on the drum bus and a touch of transient shaping on the cymbals.

Little to no automation, to keep the live band feel.

Hi everyone

Here's my mix using Logic 10.3.1.

There's a bunch of compression, clipping, limiting and reverb on the drums with a touch of transient shaping on some individual elements.

The bass has a couple of compressors and parallel distortion, with eq sculpting using Apple's 'Graphic Equalizer' plugin.

The Hammond features added leslie effect and the brass is given a sprinkling of delay. Clav gets some phaser thrown in for fun.

The master bus has compression and eq, plus harmonic enhancement using Melda Production's multiband saturator. A little bit if console-style effect is added using Klanghelm's IVGI and Hornet's Analog Stage. I'm also passing everything through a small amount of reverb.

There's quite a lot of automation going on.

Just out of curiosity, could you please upload a screenshot of your master bus, because your commentary sounds to me like you did some pre-mastering rather than focusing on the mix. Thanks in advance.
