Mp3 Removed not needed

As for notes; the problem for me was a part could be in key, but not fit the section so which parts and building the sections dynamics was the first task. So since, I am trying to hone my mixing chops and reading songs my vision might not match the writer’s vision sorry in advance Anyway…

I tried to sift through the different parts and looked for things that did not take away from the vocals, but had a place with a little different sound. The intro vocals I tried some different thing would of like a little more low fi thing the rest of them compress Eq dynamic eq for some 200 to 400 range taming .I did some Re-amping on some guitars interesting how the extra tracks were out of sync with the other tracks. I chose Amplitube orange amp for the GT part on the Lt and sorry forgot which amp on RT side. The verse acoustic I used the di track again out of sync with the other track tried some different thing .I think the most time was automation on almost everything this was to try and accent parts that I felt the player might have missed. The drums just could not get the cymbals out there but checked phase compressed, Eq along with some other things. The Fx, some delay 1/8 and ¼ sides, delay throws on certain words along with verb and sat. I tried different things with the bass sound not very happy, but it is what it is Amplitube sv main sound chorus I added a distorted track to add energy.

Mixed in Reaper using Fab, waves, TDR, Soundtoys, Stillwell plugins.

Overall, de- essing, time aligning, automation and trying to find a Gt sound.

2-buss
Eq = 30 something and below roll off
Saturation plugin
Ssl compressor= glue
Limiter= just for some stray peaks no volume lifting

If you have any thoughts or questions let me know!

Hi!

Sorry for my bad English, I am Italian.

I use Reaper and i have Apollo Twin usb, all mix is "in the box".

I start always my mix whith a refence song similar, in this case i choose "Wherever you will go" by "The Calling".

Kick: I cut the boxy frequencies around 350 hz, compression, boost 50hz and 4000hz.

Snare: I split side stick and normal play and i mixed them separately, cut at 240hz for resonant sound.

Hi-Hat: I had a problem due to so many returns from other instrument, i cut at 1000hz.

Toms: I not used gate but I edited the tracks directly, i cut for everyone the resonant frequencies.

Over: i cut at 100hz.

Drum ambient stereo: i cut at 250hz, in this track kick is very boxy.

Drum ambient mono: i cut at 100hz and around 350hz, in this track i used a 1176 compressor in distortion mode to make the sound more aggressive.
I used a hall reverb for snare, toms and hi-hat.

Bass: I reamped whith Ampeg SVTVR and i have compressed in parallel whit 1176, attack and relese fast for levelling the sound, i cut 50hz to leave space at the kick.

Acustic Guitars: For every i cut low frequencies to not mask the Bass and i use two hall reverb.

Electric Guitars: For every i cut low frequencies to not mask the Bass and i boosted 8000hz whit Pultec, i used slap delay to make more stereo sound and i played whit pan  .
The solo track is reamped whith ENGL Savage 120, in my mix guitar solo is more incisive.

Synth: I boosted 16000hz in synth 1 and 1000 hz in synth 2

Lead Vocal: I joined the tracks and edited the gain for my taste,in order i filtered 100hz and cut 300hz and 500hz, 1176 for limiting and LA-2A for levelling, de-esser, Pultec for boost 2000hz and 10000hz, slap delay (Precison Reflection Engine by UAD, Nice Room 2 preset).
I used a medium plate reverb.
In chorus i used 1/8-1/4-1/2 delay (SoundToys Echoboy).

Backing Vocals: All track are completely panned in stereo and i used a medium plate reverb

Master Buss: i used a compressor to flatten all whit slow attack and auto-release, in master buss i used a Vertigo VSM-3 by Plugin Alliance whit "MS-Master" preset to simulate analog, I use it frequently.

Thank you!

Hi,
I tried to get a bigger drums sound in this track. I think it's very important for song like this. Also I reamped guitars and make their sound slightly heavier to make choruses sounds like chorus :)
All my FXs chaines you can see on screenshots. Nothing unusual, some EQs and Compresors.

Screensots

Good luck to all

Hello!

1. leveling
2. Adding analog tracking
3. Bouncing dow the files
4. mixing the acoustic intro
5. Adding a buss compressor
6. Getting the chorus to sound gigantic
7. Adding reverb and delay
8. Mid/Side EQ on OH
9. Heavy compressing the room
10. Adding drum reverb only on the room mic
11. mixing the toms
12. Adding Scheps REAR BUSS and a DRUM BUSS
13. Starting with the ”ear candy”
14. Adding reverb on the hard panned tracks but the reverb is hard panda the opposite direction for better stereo image.
15. At last going over all the tracks and finalising (I do NOT mean mastering) the mix

My goal is to get the fundamentals down first and the foundation, then work with vocals and ”ear candy”. I wanted the intro and outdo to be soft and clean and the choruses dirty and heavy! Very nice song CeZar!

Had fun I hope I make it to round 2!

(Re-Edit)

My order of mixing: Acoustic Guitars, Drumset, Bass, Electric Licks, Rhythm Guitars, Main Vocal + Bgv's (I did not use synth for this round)

Overall I am happy with the sound of the Kick and Snare (I would like to know what mics were used and the placement of those two mics)

- Snare has phasing issues, while I was doing leveling I heard it right of the bat, so if anyone didn't adjust ops...

- Overheads has a lot of snare and not enough cymbals. So I used the F6 plugin from waves. Send a pre-fader send to a random bus, I called it (Snare Side) (you'll see it on my screenshot) I found the area where the snare was dominant in the OH and used side chain compression to duck it out when the snare hit.

- Really disappointed that no ride mic was used

- I used the F6 pluging to do the same thing on the bass with the kick. Send a pre-fader send of the kick to a bus. Went for 75Hz, and I believe 120Hz to be ducked out when the kick hits.

- For the intro acoustic guitars: EVERYONE seemed to have used the one the mix provided Lol, why?
- I feel like the intro guitars define the tone of the song, and so far I have heard people trying to remove all that low end and trying to make it cleaner, and really end up ruining your mix...because your basing yourself out of that, that's WHAT I THINK

- So I used the TLM 193 and U87 for the combination of the acoustic guitars and man, it's a beautiful blend. So thats what you are hearing when you open my mix.
The acoustic guitars do have volume automation when the vocal comes in

- The lead vocal went through a little bit of processing (I think you can see on my screenshot)
For the Bgv's they are behind the lead vocal.

The synth was not used because they aren't doing anything simple.

I loved the quality of the recordings!

My main goal was to do a enhanced version of the original, this mean keeping the sonority, the dynamics and priority of differents instruments and process them to achieve a modern and fuller sound.

Soundboard : Focusrite 18I20
Monitors : Presonus ERIS E8 + ARC2 System from IK Multimedia
Lots of compressors and EQ are from IK Multimedia
Used also a SixQ Joemeek optical compressor for some samples

I'm very happy with the result and I hope you like!

I felt the recordings were great and found the only real issue was that the mic'd guitar tracks in the chorus lacked the 'life' needed to really lift the song, so I chose to re-amp a couple of the DI tracks using GuitarRig plugins, but still using the mic'd tracks to carry some bottom end.

I also used GuitarRig to build a simple bass rig.

For the most part, I only felt the need to use some EQ's and compression with a couple of reverbs on auxiliary channels. A tube saturator on the snare bus gave it some weight and sizzle.

On the mix bus, I just used a slightly coloured compressor at around 2.1 ratio giving 1.5dBs reduction max, just to gel the mix together.

Volume automation to bring the chorus section out a bit more. Nothing else fancy.
