Last minute as always :)

I tweaked a lot, it's even more in your face and less subby (but still has weight, it's DnB after all  ). I focused on giving it some vibe and make it sound like record rather than some tracks that play along together.

Hello,

Here are the final results. As always when doing this kind of selections, it's hard to set the ranking since each track has it's pros and cons, so you can send me a PM with all your flames and insults if you want! :hihi: Anyways, here we go:

1st - Monk: Congratulations! I really enjoyed your mix, it's really punchy and the bass has a good definition. The snare has a very agressive sound I loved, and also I detected some really subtle FXs in the bass section that, although not game-changing, they have added movement and dynamism without moving it out of place.

2nd - davemcisaac: I don't really know what to say about your mix... The overall sound is really good, a great balance in drums, bass, pads and FXs, and in them as a whole :hail: . Not much grit/dist added, though.

3rd - VasDim: In general, your mix sounds great, but I detected a problem of sub volumes... That was eating almost all the dynamic range, but otherwise, everything sounded great and you've done a good job with FXs (even if sometimes the mix sounds a bit washed in reverb).

4th - Photonic: A good, dirty mix. Really sounds with a lot of character, but again, the bass (the Wobble synth) was... better than in Round 1, but dispersed, not in the same room as the other elements. Still, a mix I enjoyed for it's originality  :tu:

5th - Studio Saturn: Umm, a clean mix. Everything has it's place, overall volumes look great, but it's lacking any character, it sounds a bit thin, especially the snare, which in these genres is the percussive element that drives the track.

And I think we are finished here. I have enjoyed having you all mixing my track, hearing the different styles and so, and I hope we have all had fun and an interesting time.

Regards,

Jorge

I really wish you would have mentioned that you wanted more "grit/distortion" in your 1st Round critique - I would have been more than happy to have given it to you!

Maybe next time...

Yaaay! :hyper:

Congratulations to Dave and VasDim!

I put a lot of work into making the snare what It is now: the driving force of the track and the cornerstone to this "eat the skin off your forehead" energy that has to be there in DnB. So I am glad that It worken out well :)
Of cause, being a native to this genre (at least I used to be) gave ne the advantage of knowing what to go for.
I also learned a lot, which is great! This was the first time ever I used a C4 successfully on the Masterbuss. It doesn't do a lot visually, but when it's taken off... POOF - there goes your skin eating energy

Dave, again I really liked what you did and LOVED the panning effects! But the 80s Rock'n'Roll like snare reverb... It threw me really off! It places the most important element (besides the lead bass) far too much back. Imagine that on a HipHop Track, thats how important the snare is in DnB. Anyways, as mentioned the FX are super cool, would you mind to eleborate on how you did the panning effect of the sweep into the break thats similar to your ending? That made me really jealous and tingly  In return I'm not taking anything by Metric Halo again (which I planned to do) so you can have your ChannelStrip this time :)
Hint: You can resize the GUI (top left I think)

My pick is the Acon Verberate.

Cheers

First and foremost, congratulations to the winners!

We perform with the usual - please select one license out of the pool, then (attention, slight change for the time being) get win touch with me via PM with your full name and mail address.

Mork already picked up Acon Digital Verberate, next up in line is davemcisaac, then VasDim
I'll update the "winners podium" shortly.

Thanks again for your participation. You can leave the thread alive if you want to exchange tips/tricks, edits, etc. Else, see you folks over at MC32.

Congrats to Mork!

and also to Dave and VasDim!

Jorge, I am happy to reached 4th place. Because I thought I will have no chance in this genre, which I never listen usually. I am glad that you like the overall sound and I believe that I did not understand how this lead bass sould sound. Now,after listen to the other mixes, I have a glue. This was a good round for me to step out of my comfort zone.

The "80's Rock'n'Roll like snare reverb" was intended to do just that - be different & unexpected. It seems to have done the job, but not in a very positive way :face:

There were a couple spots in the break:
1. Where the Bass Boom is, I automated a send from Riser to Echo Boy Jr (set on Ping-Pong/Transmitter, beat-synced 1/4 Note, with a bit of saturation).
2. Where the Kick & UK Bass come back in, I automated the "Mix" to 95% on PanCake2 inserted on the White Noise track, set @ 1/8 note Beat Synced.

For the ending, I automated a tape stop on the String Pad and I inserted & automated MPhaser, Acon Digital Verberate and PanCake2(beat-synced 1/4 note) on the Master to give it that fading out and falling apart feel.

I'm glad you liked most of what I did  - and, thanks for leaving it open for me to take the MH Channel Strip. If you still want more from Metric Halo, I'm sure you'll have plenty more chances!

In case it was missed - I am taking the Metric Halo Channel Strip - courtesy of Mork :hail:
I will let satyatunes know.
