Ergin,

Here is my entry. Thank you for the song!

This song brought back some great memories for me. When I was much younger, I was lucky enough to happen upon Steve Ray Vaughan, Chris Layton, and Tommy Shannon in my college town on their very first tour supporting Texas Flood. They had rented a limo and were tooling around town (which was extremely out of place at the time.) They were having a blast in the afternoon prior to the show. I got to hang out with them and talk about guitars and amps for a long while. They were extremely nice to me. At that time, not many people knew how about Stevie yet, so I think they were kind of thrilled to be recognized.

Before I left, Stevie pulled out a vinyl Texas Flood LP, and the whole band signed it and gave it to me. It was marked on the back "For Promotional Use Only." To me, Texas Flood was my favorite, and in my opinion, the best sounding album that he put out, so hopefully if my mix can hit anywhere within a country mile of that album sound, I would be extremely happy.

I was sitting in the first few rows that night at his show, and it still stands out as one of the most amazing shows I have seen (as a guitar player). Every time I fire up my 1969 Super Reverb, I think of that night. I was lucky enough to catch Stevie one more time, just days before he was killed, when he was playing with Jeff Beck, but that concert did not nearly capture the fire that I witnessed on his Texas Flood tour.

Here are some pics of the album that I will never sell:

Bass: Split Freq to bus, Cl1B on bus and lows, Harmonics/Dist on high end. 1176>LA2A on Highs.

Guitars: API 550a, and some very light compression.

Hello,
I very glad to be able to participate in the mix challenge. Thanks to all who made this possible.

Mix Notes:
I went with a traditional style Blues Mix for the song. The reference mix was Albert King’s classic, “Born Under a Bad Sign”.

All of the tracks went through a UAD A800 for some saturation/compression. Mixed with Softube Console 1 using the British Class A emulation.

Drum Room stereo enhanced with Ozone Imager.

Drum Bus added Slate London Harmonics for more tube warmth and CS-Lift for a touch of Punch and Silky.

Bass DI went to a UAD Softube Bass Amp Room 8x10 to get a realistic sound.

Rythm guitar reamped with UAD Marshall JMP2203 with a room mic blended in. POD Farm Spring reverb added for a vintage flavor.

Lead guitar was reamped with UAD Softube Amp Room Half-Stack with a send to a UAD Echoplex.

Vocal was compressed with UAD 1176 Rev A and Console 1. De-essed with Waves RDeEsser and then equalized with V 650 EQ slightly. For a touch more highs I added Slate AirEQ and CS-EQ. Izotope Doubler was blended in on the vocal bus.

Reverbs
A short UAD EMT Plate B was used on Kick, Snare, OH and Bass.
UAD L224 SmHall A was on the Snare, Lead gutar and Vocal.
Vocal had a Slate Verbsuite Classics BM7 Chamber1 reverb for presence and Tape Delay for a subtle slap echo.

Master Bus
Slate FG-Bomber for a touch of presence, UAD ATR-102 for mix vibe and finally a True Peak Limiter to catch any TP overs.
Mix comes in at -16 LUFS INT.

This was a fun project to be involved in. Thanks!

Hi,

Thank you for the ability to lay my hands on this nice piece of recording!
I tried to keep the original vibe of the song, not using any drum samples or re-amping. I was struggling a bit though, to get it to sound clear but still with an analog feeling.
Anyhow, here is my attempt:

WAV
MP3

Drums: SSL E channel strip for general processing (compression, EQ)
Bass: MaxxBass and Airwindows' Drive
Guitars: only basic EQing and panning, Airwindows' ADT for delay processing
Vox: iZotope's De-clip, Scheps Omnichannel and a bit of Overloud EQ550, slight reverb
Mixbuss: SSL G buss compressor (used lightly), VEQ4 for the overall tonal balance and Airwindows' ToTape5

I also used Airwindow's Console5 for the summing throughout the busses.

Cheers!

I've been to many blues concerts in smaller places and always enjoyed it, when a band performed juiced-up versions of their recorded songs, because they just couldn't resist the energy happening. By juiced-up I mean more power, more drive and more density, and I wanted to take the mix towards that explosive and tight image from those concert memories.

A main priority for me was also to try and tame the vocal harshness in the 2-4 kHz range, while maintaining some kind of clarity and still keep it loud, but levelled with the guitars.

I found and introduced a few new plugin gems during this mix, which will have a big impact on my future mixes and workflow.

I am running late, so a more detailed mix documentation must have to wait.

My mix: Moe Joe - I'm Alright.wav

Do we still need to post mp3? Ok, here's my -1 dB ceiling mp3 bounce. Avoid using it, please! mp3

Late as always:

WAV: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1N2DLh ... hn2IwF9KQV
MP3: https://drive.google.com/open?id=18Ip3c ... X3CNFDIrUS

Edit:
I loved the song and also the recordings although there were some challenges, like vocal harshness.
Blues for me usually is weight and grit. The grit part came a bit short due to time constraints. But since I liked the original tones very much, I tried to alter them as little as possible and went for a fairly raw and dynamic sound, although blues rock is usually slammed against the wall.
