Hello! This is my submission.

Song: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ovf8cftoa223y ... k.wav?dl=0
Screenshots: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/fagqdl6nf03u ... FkKPa?dl=0

DAW is Studio One 4 Professional

Some of the plugins used are from Presonus, CLA, SSL, Focusrite,Izotope, Youlean, and Waves.

I mixed this song in two methods.
Using Yamaha HS80Ms and Abbey Road Studio 3.
Reference speakers used are JBL Charge 3, Apple Earphones, Beats Pro, and Harbinger MLS900.

Methods used are: Parallel compression on vocals, bass and drums.
Each instrument group have their own bus. For e.g. Acoustic guitar bus, Electric guitar bus, Vocal bus, Drum bus, etc. to bind all the sounds.
Room mic was used but also EQ to produce only the "room" sound coupled with reverb to make the drums sound "bigger".
Attack on acoustic guitar strumming is notched up to produce a more intimate unplugged sound on the "vocal/guitar" only parts of the song.
Lastly, SSL compressor added on master bus. However, compressor is bypassed, EQ is notched up 3db on highs (10k and up)to produce a specific harmonic distortion.

Final mix db is -6dB on K14 Leveling meter on the master bus.
Mixdown at Wave format - 24 bits, 44.1 Khz.

Drive and riff guitars went to bus with PSP FETpressor and Colour eq with middle boost

This was fun song to practise, it’s been 15+ years from last time I mixed something with a goal in mind,

I would like to say hello because this is my first entry. Thanks to CeZar for great song. This forum and challange is a fantastic thing and I regret not knowing it before. Special thanks to everyone who creates it. I hope i will stay here longer.

Here is my entry:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1DjUyV ... 2Jjqe0QmDf

Please note that mix has about 17 LUFS because of no limiting/clipping master track.
Turn your volume knob to reach propely level.

DAW used: Cockos Reaper 6.05
Everything mixed ITB

Effects used - ValhallaRoom for guitars, PhoenixVerb Plate and Soundtoys Little Plate for vocals, PhoeinxVerb rooms for drums, Soundtoys Echoboy for Vocals and guitar licks

Vocals: FabFilter ProQ3 on individual tracks, TrackS 76 and 2A compression, Waves Sibilance to deess a little bit. Soundtoys Decapitator on Vocal bus used in paralell. A little bit of automatics. RVox compression on background vox

Acoustic Guitars: ProQ3 to EQ and dynamic mode on low mids, Sidewidener, A little bit of TrackS White 2A compression,

EL guitar licks: ProQ3, elysia mpressor, a little bit of sidewidener to make them stand out

Drive guitars 24 25: Helix Amp sim used in paralell to bring some additional mids. Fabfilter proQ3 on bus. Reverb sends

Synths: Decapitatror to add higher harmonics on synth 2, Fabfilter ProQ3 on both

Drums: Two para channels - one with SSL Native bus compressor, another with Tracks Black 76. Kick, Snare, toms send in different level to each one. FabFilter ProQ3 on individual channels. Decapitator, Smack Attack on snare, elysia mpressor on toms, TrackS 76 on OH in pararell, TrackS Black 76 on Rooms. HiHat - LPF, Waves Smack Attack on kick to add punch and make it shorter. Sonnox Oxford Inflator on drum bus.

Bass: Bass Professor, Soundtoys Little Radiator to add harmonics, elysia mpressor to compress a bit and TDR Nova dynamic EQ with kick sidechain on shelf below 100 Hz

A lot of automatics on buses.

Master Bus: Solid State Logic Native Bus Compressor with gentle 2-3 dB gain reduction. Volume Envelope to highlight parts of the song.

Had a lot of fun. Good Luck to everyone!

Hey everybody !
So this is my first Mix Challenge. It was a nice song and really fun to mix.

What I always do before starting to mix is to listen 1 or 2 times the song to get a rough idea of what i'll do. One of the most important thing to me is how the session is setup to have best work flow possible. I use Pro Tools. I create all my VCAs groups for easy solo, rout every tracks to my "stems", prepare all my aux tracks (for reverb, delay, parallel compression, etc...), and rout and rename all my buses.

In this mix, I din't use that much EQ because I felt like the tracks were really well recorded. Most of my dynamic traitement we subtle. I really took the time to do the sound level with the voice, I used a bit of clip gain before any compressor and then finish of with some automation. I used reverb on the snares, toms, Rooms, acc guitars and the vocals and used automation to send the reverb.
My objectif was to have soft verse and a powerful chorus.
My top peak in this mix is -5.9 DBFs.

I mostly use Waves SSL plugins for EQ and compression or the CLA-76,the channel strip for Pro Tools, for the reverbs I use Space for Avid.

Great song! A real pleasure to mix.

Simply put, mostly a bit of eq, compression, and automation. No real problems to deal with. Very well recorded & produced.

Of note, to control the Toms I used MultiBandGate by aixDSP. First time I've used it and had to buy it!

I also am using a demo of Intensity by Zynaptic on the 2 bus for parallel processing. Very nice!

WAV - https://www.dropbox.com/s/kwdye87bfbnnn ... 4.wav?dl=0

I don't have much time left to write these notes, but am happy to provide vastly more detail, or answer any questions, if needed. My apologies. I try to have very detailed notes.

Always a pleasure working on MIXCHALLENGE tracks, but this was especially fun and educational. Thank you for the fine material and great song.

q10 surgical eq on most tracks,

tracks grouped in my TEMPLATE, which has parallel comp on all groups, and sends to verb, ambience, crunch, vox plate, vox delay.
Drums Sidechained to PUMP bus, all band inst ducking drums a bit.
Then, on Band Bus, all inst ducking vocals a bit

Not much on the 2bus. I used NLS on almost all channels and on the 2bus.. Mostly NEVE emu

Channel EQ just reduing a few uglies and boosting the air and sub by a bit.

API used here and there.

Mostly HCOMP and RCOMP

Due to posting this late i don't have time to do a thoroughly explanation on how i mixed this track, but i will add it the upcoming days.
But just a summary, i wish i had more time to work on this amazing track. If I'm selected to round 2, i have some adjustments i would like to do. For example, gain-adjusting some parts of the song, especially in the end, and also some other tracks. Remove some leaking from the headphones, and so on.
